Welcome to the
Monash Centre for Development Economics
The Centre for Development Economics at Monash University produces high quality research on economic and social problems in the developing world.
The aim of this research is to further our understanding of these problems and how they can be mitigated. Our research, while academically rigorous, aims to be to a large degree policy-relevant and we regularly engage with government departments, development agencies and development NGOs.
Director: Professor Lisa Cameron
Deputy Director: Assoc. Prof. Gaurav Datt

The former Development Research Unit is now the Monash Centre for Development Economics (Monash CDE)!
The establishment of the Centre reflects the University and Faculty's commitment to areas of research that seek to have an impact in the community beyond the university. Reseachers in the Monash CDE work on problems associated with poverty alleviation in the developing world. As a Centre, we will be actively seeking to establish partnerships with non-government organisations, international aid organisations and others in the development community to cooperatively develop research agendas that aim to improve our knowledge of the development process and provide information to policy makers about what works, what doesn't and what needs further exploration.
The Monash Centre for Development Economics is hosting the 2012 Australasian Development Economics Workshop (ADEW) on 7th and 8th June 2012. Keynote speakers include Professor Abhijit Banerjee (MIT). For more details visit the ADEW 2012 page.
